This is a past event.

Due to popular demand the closing date for entries for the Think Brick Awards 2011 has been extended until June 7. As a result it’s still possible to enter one of the richest design awards in Australia. With entries extended by a week it’s not too late for architects and students to submit an innovative brick design for a chance to win the About Face Student & Open Face Awards. Created to encourage architects and architectural students to consider the artistic, environmental and versatile features of clay brick use, the winners of the Think Brick Awards 2011 will be announced at a high profile event in Melbourne on 11th August.

According to Elizabeth McIntyre, CEO, Think Brick Australia, “The Think Brick Awards have become a showcase for some of Australia’s most innovative architectural design and feature a number of different categories which are still open for entries including the new Open Face Award, the Student Open Face Award and the Horbury Hunt Award.”

Elizabeth goes on to say, “The inaugural Open Face Award for conceptual design is open to all Architects and the brief for the new award focuses on the private realm – a sustainable suburban house.” The winner of this prestigious award will receive 2 business class tickets and 5 nights accommodation in Milan for the Venice Biennale 2012.

Submit your entries now for the About Face Student conceptual design competition for Australian architectural students, with first prize of 1 return economy class ticket to Milan to the Venice Biennale and 3 nights accommodation, and 3 “highly commended” prizes of $500 cash.

Elizabeth McIntyre explains: “Both the Open Face and About Face Student awards are intended to elicit sophisticated speculations for the future of the Australian suburb, calling for architectural projects that engage with the suburban by envisioning a future for the Australian suburb that embraces increased densities while accepting our established desire to engage with suburban life.” The Horbury Hunt Award, which celebrates brick craftsmanship for built projects across the
country. The Winning entry will receive a plaque, trophy and certificate for the winning project.
