Plan to turn Melbourne into Asia-Pacific hub

A very interesting proposal, while participation is a welcome novelty, I am concerned with the projected image of what Melbourne should be: "transform Melbourne into the financial and environmental powerhouse of the Asia-Pacific region". The vocabulary!
Haven't we had enough of a power driven economy/society and senseless competition?
Can we speak of a friendly city for its inhabitants and for the rest of Asia?
Learning from experience, financial growth and environmental responsibility have not gone hand in hand.

Worth to have a read and see whether this time "the backroom boys" are prepared to listen - not just to businesses, but to citizens and professionals with no invested financial interests.

Professor Russell said the group might consider issues as diverse as:

■ Public transport improvements.

■ Whether more residents were needed in the CBD.

■ Docklands' connection to Melbourne's CBD grid.

■ Whether more city pedestrian areas were needed.

■ Whether eucalypts or exotics should be planted in the city centre.
