The Melbourne Atlas

The state government of Victoria is to release an atlas of Melbourne this week. It will apparently show how Melbourne has changed drastically over relatively little time. The atlas will examine the shift of the"socio-economic divide" from a line along the Yarra to a ring around the city; the expansion of the city to double the size it was in 1971; and the inablility of public transport to service this growth.

The atlas reports that quality of life in the city has improved as incomes have increased, but that its 'ecological footprint' has expanded along with it.
