Ballarat best and worst

Hot on the heels of an Albury newspaper’s Best and Worst Buildings comes Ballarat’s. A slightly more democratic method of determining the lists was used – polls rather than one journo’s whims.

Some good buildings, on both lists. Maybe next there could be a list of buildings that people are indifferent about. The Gregory Street silos makes it onto both lists.

Thanks very much for sharing Peter. Some wierd choices. I agree with most of the worst – except the hospital – I actually love this postmodern design. I’m also suprised at some that didn’t make the list for instance the Mining Exchange, the distinctive gothic office building (now apartments) on the corner of Lydiard and Sturt Streets, Trades Hall, Town Hall and the Triumphal Arch all should have made this list. I think also the listing for the Art Gallery refers to the great modern extension. And the silo is topical (given the apartment conversion) but most definitely a suprise !
